Boskasian Quanta (BBQ) – Frequently Asked Questions

What is Boskasian Quanta (BBQ)?

Boskasian Quanta (BBQ) is a fungible token issued on the Algorand blockchain. It provides a way for supporters of the Republic of Boskasia to participate in gifts, commerce, and exchange with each other and with Boskasian institutions.

BBQ is designed to be understandable, durable, and intentionally boring in value behavior.

Is BBQ a cryptocurrency?

Not in the strict sense.

A cryptocurrency typically has its own blockchain or transaction ledger. BBQ is a token, which means it exists on a shared blockchain (Algorand) alongside other assets. It does not operate its own chain.

Is BBQ an investment?

No.

BBQ is not intended for speculation or appreciation. In theory, its value should not change relative to the U.S. dollar, and it has no designed mechanism for growth as an investment asset.

If you are looking for something to “go up,” BBQ is probably not for you.

Why does BBQ exist?

There are several reasons:

  1. Because I wanted to prove I could do it.

  2. Because currency is freedom, and every nation should have its own unit of exchange. While BBQ is not a national currency, it can function similarly within the Boskasian ecosystem.

  3. Because acquiring BBQ is an implicit act of support for the Republic of Boskasia and the direction it is going.

What does it mean that BBQ is “pi-pegged”?

BBQ is pegged such that:

1 USD = 3.1415926 BBQ

This ratio was chosen because π (pi) is one of the most important constants in mathematics and is culturally meaningful to Boskasia—despite the fact that pie is not, in fact, a Boskasian food.

How is the peg maintained?

Every U.S. dollar used to acquire BBQ is held in separate reserve accounts and not spent.

Conceptually, this is similar to an old-style gold standard—except the backing asset is the U.S. dollar rather than gold.

Can BBQ ever change in value?

In theory, yes—once BBQ transactions occur outside the Boskasian Central Bank.

In practice, the Boskasian Central Bank (BCB) acts to maintain the peg:

  • If someone wants to buy BBQ above the pi peg, BCB will issue at the peg.

  • If someone sells BBQ below the peg, BCB will honor that price to restore parity.

The goal is stability, not price discovery.

How do I obtain BBQ?

In short:

  1. Get an Algorand wallet

  2. Opt in to the BBQ asset

  3. Submit a request (called a null request)

  4. Send USD as directed

  5. Receive BBQ

Full step-by-step instructions are available at:
https://www.boskasia.org/quanta

Why do I have to submit a request?

During this initial phase, distribution is intentionally controlled.

BBQ is currently issued only to those who support Boskasia or intend to transact with Boskasian institutions. At some point in the future, we expect to “get out of the way” and allow free exchange—but until there is meaningful circulation, routing issuance through the BCB is safer for everyone.

What payment methods are accepted?

At present, we accept:

  • Venmo

  • PayPal

  • Zelle

  • Coinbase

  • Algorand (on-chain)

We do not currently accept credit cards.

What can I use BBQ for?

BBQ can be used for transactions with Boskasia.

For example, Boskasian goods may be priced in both USD and BBQ. You may notice that BBQ prices are often lower than the USD equivalent, making it advantageous to transact in BBQ when available.

Why do I need an Algorand wallet?

BBQ exists as an Algorand Standard Asset (ASA), which means it can only be held and transferred on the Algorand blockchain.

We recognize that requiring a wallet is an extra step, but Algorand provides a secure, low-cost, and well-established platform for issuing and managing assets.

Why does my wallet show BBQ as having no price?

Because the value exchange happens outside the blockchain.

For example:

  • You send Boskasia USD via Venmo.

  • The blockchain only sees that BCB sent you BBQ.

  • It does not see the off-chain USD transaction.

Until value exchange occurs fully on-chain, wallets will show BBQ with no market price.

What are the on-chain addresses listed on the site?

They represent functional roles:

  • Reserve — where reserve BBQ is held (a vault)

  • Treasury — where BBQ is distributed in exchange for USD

  • Freeze / Clawback — enforcement authority for exceptional cases

These roles exist to preserve order, accountability, and fairness.

Can BBQ be frozen or clawed back?

Yes, in cases of fraud, manipulation, or conduct that undermines a fair market.

Boskasia follows the principles of Boskeism, which places high value on fair markets. Actions that corrupt those markets may result in BBQ being frozen pending investigation, and clawed back if necessary.

Can BBQ be redeemed for USD?

Yes, through the Boskasian Central Bank.

Redemption is not instant at this time, but transfers will be made as promptly as practicable.

Is BBQ legal tender?

No.

If you can’t pay your taxes with it, it isn’t legal tender—simple as that.

Is BBQ accepted outside Boskasia?

Not currently.

We would not oppose outside vendors requesting to accept BBQ, but as of now, none do.

Who controls the supply of BBQ?

The Boskasian Central Bank controls issuance.

One billion BBQ have been minted, which should be sufficient for a long time. Within that supply, we are bound—by policy, duty, and moral conviction—to ensure that outstanding BBQ never exceeds reserves divided by π.

How do I know BBQ is actually backed?

Right now, you don’t—beyond trust.

We publish policies, maintain reserves, and intend to disclose backing levels transparently. However, until Boskasia can financially support audits and formal oversight, trust ultimately rests with the Almighty Sigma acting as an honest broker.

Will the rules ever change?

Almost certainly.

The world evolves, and Boskasia will evolve with it. What we commit to is that any changes will be transparent and publicly published.
